Specialties and Clinical Interests:
Polyvagal Theory & Nervous System Support
Aly trained with Deb Dana in the clinical application of Polyvagal Theory and is a certified provider of the listening/music therapies developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, the Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP) and the Rest & Restore Protocol (RRP), both are clinically designed to help the nervous system return to a state of safety and regulation.
Attachment Focused EMDR (AF-EMDR)
Aly completed Levels one, two, and three basic training with Dr. Laurel Parnell in Attachment Focused EMDR.
Expressive Arts, Somatic Practices & Bibliotherapy
Aly has training in trauma-informed creative expressive arts and body-based approaches (including trauma-informed yoga and iRest Yoga Nidra). For clients who share her love of reading, Aly recommends various books as a therapeutic activity.
Relationship Patterns & Intimacy Challenges
Drawing from her clinical experience supporting survivors of sexual abuse and her trainings in Post-Induction Therapy (Pia Mellody; The Meadows Model), Dr. Ken Adams (enmeshment recovery), and sex/love addiction treatment through the International Institute of Trauma & Addiction Professionals, Aly enjoys helping adults in recovery from trauma and addictions to develop healthy boundaries and relationships grounded in reality rather than fantasy.
ADHD, Autism & Neurodivergence
Diagnosed with ADHD and Autism in her 40s, Aly has extensive personal and professional experience recognizing high-masking, female presentations of these neurotypes. In 2023, she developed a Neuro-Affirming Autism Screening Tool with her colleague Candice Christiansen, designed for use by clinicians. An updated screening will be available in the Fall of 2026.
Media Literacy & Feminist Analysis
Aly enjoys integrating media literacy into her work and encourages clients to think critically about the messaging they consume and to notice the impacts of media on their nervous system.
Aly has had a lifelong interest in women’s studies and feminist theories in the field of psychology. She may introduce that framework into sessions when relevant, such as examining female socialization to “be kind,” often at the cost personal safety, and/or to feel valued or devalued based on beauty norms that center appearance over character.
She is a long time passionate advocate for the prevention of child sexual abuse and sexual violence against girls and women. She was lead author on a paper submitted to the United Nations about the significant harms of pornography, which is available upon request.
